We are siblings Karolina and Michal Jankiv. We operate in Prešov under the joint fashion brand JANKIV SIBLINGS. In our work, we specialize in preserving and restoring a unique art sector - hand pleating. Jankiv Siblings is a combination of our passion, determination and fateful enchantment from hand-made plissé.
Pleating is a way of folding materials and textiles into different shapes and means.
We can also define it as a series of small folds in large numbers in a row.
The individual pleats are folded by hand, on the required piece of material, with the help of heat, pressure and steam.
Their characteristic feature is the texture, volume and structure, on the basis of which we can change the fracture of light on the fabric and effects on clothing.
The resulting effect is to create material fullness and deliver added value to the material.
Pleated garments have always been seen as an expression of high social status. Folded textiles have been known for millennia.
The first garment with a pleated structure was already worn by the pharaohs in ancient Egypt. In the past, pleating not only added to the decoration and set it apart from others, but was considered a symbol of prestige, strength, power, luxury and wealth. Today, plissé tends to give the user a sense of sophistication as a result of the precise and consistent work required to create a subtle appearance of the folds. Thanks to pleating, any simple material can be transformed into something more visually interesting. We went through pleating from the very beginning. Ahead of offering it on the market, we wanted to understand it in depth especially ourselves, and to understand it from the ground up. We have learned to work with plissé so that we can also offer it as a pleating service.
