Rudolf Stastny: Design That Blends Aesthetics and Functionality
Behind the brand Rudolf Stastny is a designer whose passion for connecting art, people, and local craftsmanship shapes a unique voice in the Slovak fashion scene. His studio, Atelier Stastny, is more than just a workspace—it’s a place where stories are born. Stories of garments that go beyond fashion, becoming a manifesto of craftsmanship, collaboration, and sustainability.
Collaboration That Redefines Design
Rudolf Stastny’s first major project was his diploma collection, Transformation, which marked the beginning of a collaboration with textile designer Juraj Straka. The result was a capsule unisex collection that combined diverse garment typologies with romantic floral patterns. This collection transcended traditional boundaries, harmonizing the romantic aesthetics of florals with the practicality of techwear and workwear.
“For me, clothing is a way to tell stories,” Rudy explains. “I want to show that design can be practical, aesthetic, and gender inclusive. Fashion should serve everyone—it should be inclusive.”
Utilitarian Style: The Art of Everyday Life
After his studies, Rudy launched his own line, Utilitarian Style. His vision? To create garments that are functional, timeless, and sustainable.
“My goal is to give customers the ability to build a capsule wardrobe with pieces that are not only aesthetically appealing but also practical,” he says.
Each garment is a unique blend of functionality and beauty. The unisex silhouettes that define his collections embody the philosophy of inclusivity. By combining deadstock materials—fabrics that would otherwise go unused—with precise craftsmanship, Rudy offers customers a unique experience: owning clothing with a story.
Craftsmanship with Added Value
What sets Rudolf Stastny’s collections apart? The attention to detail. From the selection of materials, which include natural fibers and unconventional textures, to the focus on small-batch production to minimize waste.
“Design needs to have meaning. For me, that means creating beautiful pieces while thinking about where they come from and where they’re going,” the young designer emphasizes.
Collaboration as the Foundation of the Future
Rudolf Stastny believes fashion is a language that connects people, art, and values. His collections embody the vision of design as a multidisciplinary process, blending diverse perspectives and styles.
“I want my clothing to inspire people to rethink fashion—as a tool that serves rather than wastes,” he concludes.
With Rudolf Stastny and his brand, fashion becomes not just beautiful but also responsible. Atelier Stastnyand his line Utilitarian Style offer clothing that transcends gender stereotypes, fuses art with functionality, and builds on the foundations of local, sustainable craftsmanship.
